Somebody better lock these chicks up! This is filthy!
Indeed, The Marvelettes take on Smokey Robinson’s classic track The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game is full of menacing slink. In fact, Wanda Rogers’ seductive lead vocal would probably put some fear into even the most determined monster. And I don’t mean Motown maestro Berry Gordy (who, traditionally, robbed these amazing women of the majority of the group’s profits) – though, I suppose, ultimately, that wouldn’t be far off base!
Oh, well… For now, just listen and enjoy!
Until the next time – SWEET love and pink GRUE, Big Gay Horror Fan!
Holy crap, dude. You’re my new best friend. The Marvelettes are my fav Motown act, hands down. I have every song they ever recorded (unless the Motown vaults have a hidden room with more material).
That’s awesome, Eric! I’m a new convert – but I adore them! In my ‘real’ life, I’m a theater critic and Black Ensemble Theater, here in Chicago, is currently doing a musical bio of them – The Marvelous Marvelettes. Its a lot of fun. The musical numbers aren’t quite as good as the originals – but the woman playing Wanda truly rocks it!
Wow. I would love to see that show. I hope it comes to the east coast. Gladys Horton (who, as I’m sure you know, was the other Marvelettes lead vocalist) is possibly the most inimitable singer of them all. I saw the Motown musical on broadway. The performers all sang quite like the artists they were portraying, except for the actress playing Gladys (during an all-too-brief appearance).
Cool post, Thanks.

I totally forgot about that. I need to re investigate! Thanks, Robbert!
