The Backside of Horror: Tim Matheson in Impulse!

Published February 11, 2013 by biggayhorrorfan

Impluse 1984 Meg Tilly Bill Paxton 2
Big Gay Horror Fan can count the jaw-dropping moments of his youth on one finger: the moment he witnessed dreamy man-on-the-job Tim Matheson hop out of bed with a young Meg Tilly (One Dark Night, Psycho II, Body Snatchers) in 1984’s environmental horror opus Impulse – and walk across the room butt naked!

impulse%205 Matheson and Tilly portray a boyfriend and girlfriend who return to a small town gone crazy due to a crisis in her family. A toxin spill has turned old mom suicidal and soon Matheson’s Stuart is affected as well. This edge turns decidedly creepy when he takes up a small town Lolita’s offer for oral pleasure.

The other true notable in this ABC Motion Pictures’ production is the legendary Hume Cronyn’s (1943’s Phantom of the Opera, Hitchcock’s Lifeboat) decidedly creepy turn as the town doctor. Meanwhile, Bill Paxton rivals similar early turns in Mortuary, Night Warning and television slasher Deadly Lessons by showing up as another twisted townsperson.Impulse--Pulsion-Homicide-Impulse-1984-1

But while those performances deserve mention from a creative standpoint, for those remembering their man starved youths, this film still resonates for another reason. It will always be Matheson’s cheeky jaunt across the floor that makes this portrayal of psyches gone astray one of most memorable viewing moments of our still explorative lives!

The Backside of Horror: Bob Morley, “Road Kill”

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, parmesan dressing, pepper jack cheese. These are things that Big Gay Horror Fan knows very well, but as evidenced by his virile display in 2009 horror odyssey Road Kill (released in 2010 under the Fangoria FrightFest banner), that Australian actor Bob Morley does not.

roadkillIn this dreamy, atmospheric outing Morley plays Craig, the object of much female affection, even after he has been disabled in a mysterious car crash. Sporting the look of a feverish punk, Morley’s Craig is soon possessed by the spirit of the massive three-trailer truck that has caused his injuries. Of course, mayhem, destruction and death soon follow.

Vibrating with solid magnetism, Morley brings a nice intensity to (the often shirtless) Craig. More importantly, to posterior fetishists, Morley displays a nice view of his taut buttocks during an opening sex scene.

You can take a look at some of Morley’s bloodied Road Kill antics here:

In an interesting note, Road Kill co-star Xavier Samuel, who has displayed power in leading roles in The Loved Ones, Bait (3D) and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, is regulated to the sideman role, here. As Craig’s betrayed yet loving friend Marcus, Samuel is soon bloodied and muted.

Meanwhile, Morley has continued to appeal to outback queers with his brief stint as Aidan Foster, a gay youth, in the long running soap opera Neighbours.bobmorley

The Backside of Horror: Christoph Bretner in Bruno Mattei’s Rats

Published December 31, 2012 by biggayhorrorfan

So many things have embarrassed Big Gay Horror Fan in his various living quarters over the years. Why you must remember the time that my actress friend Griselda sat on the couch in the living room without realizing she was resting upon my roommate’s rubber cock ring. It had blended in perfectly with that piece of furniture’s black leather exterior and she was blissfully unaware – despite my herculean efforts to rescue her! Horrors! Then there was the time that my building manager came into do a quick inspection and discovered mouse poo upon my stovetop. It had been dropped off, during the waning hours of morning, by an unknown (at least to me), yet very charitable visitor!

But, at the very least, I haven’t suffered the fate of Bruno Mattei’s characters in 1984’s deliciously ridiculous Rats: A Night of Terror. I have never ONCE been eaten alive, in my dwelling, by bucket loads of enormously flung rats!

Still, out of the many things to recommend about this enormously fun chunk fest, concerning a group of apocalyptic survivors who find more than they bargained for in the residence they are squatting in, is the copious amount of nudity provided by lean ‘n mean Cristoph Bretner (AKA Jean Christophe Bretrigniere)as irascible punk Lucifer.rats_night_of_terror_glc_06

Looking like a combination of Mick Jagger and an anorexic Goth child, Bretner exposes both lean arse and flopping pee pee as he beds the exotic Lilith. Played by lithe Moune Duvivier (whom apparently also essayed the all important ‘Nun on a Bicycle’ in the 1990 Molly Ringwald flick Strike it Rich), Lilith is dubbed in a dreadful Southern accent, and soon meets her fate via the film’s most memorable kill – a rat burrows its way into her sleeping bag entangled hoo-ha, nibbling its way up through her mouth!

Of course, Bretner soon meets his maker via the shrieking title monsters, as well. Thus proving, once and for all (again!), that nudity on film is very bad for the portrayer – but oh so good for us thrill-seeking viewers!

You can check out the trailer for Rats – which features the amazing Geretta Geretta (Demons) in a prominent Sigourney Weaver style role – here:

The Backside of Horror: Yuzna’s Society and Initiation

Published December 4, 2012 by biggayhorrorfan

002
Big Gay Horror Fan has always believed balance should be more than just a nutrition bar in the health aisle at your local store. Of course, this rarely happens in real life, so I am forever grateful to director-writer-producer, Brian Yuzna.

Inspired by surrealism and working with a sure artist’s eye, eclectic auteur Yuzna has never shied away from showing male flesh as a delicious counterpart to the female nudity that has graced his exploitation epics

In fact, in an amusing antidote about Return of the Living Dead III (1993) on a feature in the More Brains! documentary, actor Trevor J. Edmund relates how Yuzna wanted to frame a shot using his bare ass as a focal point. The young actor only declined because he was afraid that his mother would kill him.

005Of course, Yuzna’s 1989 directorial debut Society is full of slimy gelatinous male nudity during that film’s notorious shunting sequence. But, lead actor Billy Warlock, at the height of his youthful beauty, is also often seen in lingering states of mouth watering undress.

tommy hinkleyPerhaps in homage to Psycho’s opening moments, movie buff Yuzna films an athletic lunch break motel rendezvous between his leads Neith Hunter and Tommy Hinkley in the beginning minutes of his goopy bug laden 1990 treatise Initiation: Silent Night, Deadly Night 4. Flipping their bodies amidst the sweaty sheets, both the beautiful Hunter and the buff Hinkley allow us ample views of their flesh – including a prime shot of Hinkley’s taut and healthy butt cheeks!silent night

Here’s a wet, but slightly less erotic clip from Initiation featuring Hunter and co-star Clint Howard:

Exposing the Backside of 2011’s Shark Night!

Published November 19, 2012 by biggayhorrorfan

On occasion, Big Gay Horror Fan is so typically human – totally wanting what he obviously cannot have! Just look at me, daily, obsessing over all those cocky straight guys at the gym! Oh, well! At the very least, it’s an enjoyable torture.

Much like watching adorable Chris Zylka (Piranha 3DD, Kaboom, The Secret Circle) in his opening moments in 2011’s deliciously ridiculous Shark Night. As cocky model Blake, he flirts outrageously with an art student, fully exposing his toned buttocks to the camera. He even jiggles them, athletically, at one point, for the amused yet completely embarrassed object of his affection. He knows he’s hot. We know we could never have him. Still, it’s fun, all the same!

I believe this silly moment is socially significant on a weird level, though. Granted, as a filmic exercise, Shark Night, is bit confused. A PG-13 film about a variety of blood thirsty sharks gnawing on college kids can’t really go the visceral distance. The concept, though, would seemingly be a draw to young men expecting another breast laced Piranha rip-off. But, besides a brief side shot of Katherine McPhee removing her bra, Zylka’s is the only major nudity in the film (and is even repeated in an energetically, fun mock rap video featuring the cast at the end of credit scroll). Were the producers trying to appeal to a female (and gay audience), here? Is male nudity finally being given equal consideration in genre films? (I kind of doubt that one, but it’s interesting to consider.)Or did writers Will Hayes and Jesse Studenberg and director David Hayes simply feel it was a good character based introduction as Zylka’s character is a sexually confidant cock-of-the-walk who is constantly preening?

Whatever the answer, it is a significant moment for those in the know. (And, apparently, it was a memorable one, as well. It was often mentioned in on online reviews and articles on the film.)

Zylka was, also, significantly oft naked in Gregg Araki’s colorful Kaboom – as evidenced by the film’s trailer:
