The Backside of Horror: Ken Abraham, “Creepozoids”, “Deadly Embrace”.

Published May 20, 2013 by biggayhorrorfan

For gay old school horror lovers, Ken Abraham is the one name in terror history that probably brings instant happiness.

Bursting with brash attitude and a compelling presence, Abraham brought star quality to such low budget genre epics as Terror Night, Creepozoids, Vampire Nights, Mind, Body and Soul and Vice Academy.

More significantly, to those of certain orientations, Abraham offered himself up as one of the few male cult icons who was confident enough to reveal as much flesh as his female co-stars.

CreepozoidsAbraham’s most iconic image of nude frolicking is most likely from David DeCoteau’s post-apocalyptic monster flick Creepozoids (1987). As Butch, one of a band of weary survivors, Abraham finds momentary comfort from the dusty gloom by taking a much appreciated, rump baring shower with genre icon Linnea Quigley.

Two years later, in 1989 T and A thriller Deadly Embrace (helmed by DeCoteau under his Ellen Cabot pseudonym), Abraham once again rolled out the globule delights. As the hunky houseboy hired by a murderously, sex-minded society wife, Abraham found himself far from the noir classics of the 40’s. Yet, this cheesy, fun exercise allowed Abraham to show both his tender and cocky side and plenty of ass-cheek, as well.ken deadly embrace

Abraham continued to act in such genre efforts as Joss Whedon’s Angel and The Forgotten (with Julianne Moore) until 2004 when his successful career as an editor and producer began to take his full attention.

This fun trailer for Creepozoids features some tongue happy Quigley-Abraham shower action!:

The Backside of Horror: Mark Metcalf in “The Final Terror”

Best known to scare enthusiasts for providing thrills of the evil incarnate variety as The Master on the Buffy, the Vampire Slayer television series, serious character actor Mark Metcalf found himself naked and on the other side of the terror-giving in (1981 lensed, 1983 released) slasher The Final Terror.finalterror3

As Mike, the kind chaperone of a group of wayward teens (including Grease 2‘s Adrian Zmed and soon-to-be superstars Daryl Hannah and Rachel Ward) on a wilderness outing, Metcalf makes the unfortunate decision to relax with a quick skinny-dip while searching for one of his wards.

marksexSurprised by his girlfriend Melanie (played by the adorable Cindy Harrell), Metcalf is soon bearing his lean booty for crafty cinema-goers as the two prescribe to a little forest loving.

Of course, anyone with their horror stripes knows that even consensual copulation means a horrible death in early 80’s horror flicks. Therefore, Metcalf/Mike’s howling orgasm turns into yodels of pain as the film’s mountainside maniac does him in with a crafty sickle in the back.

Thankfully, Metcalf’s death is one of the film’s more memorable ones and his rump bearing, itself, is notable in a genre that frequently fetishizes the feminine virtues and not the male’s.

The Backside of Horror: Cameron Dye in 1988’s “Out of the Dark”

“You’re just a kid, you know that? But, you’re a naughty little boy!” – Kristi to Kevin, “Out of the Dark

The last time Big Gay Horror Fan played sports in the nude, he was 6 months old and playing kick ball in his momma’s tummy.

Thankfully, for appreciators of fine male flesh, handsome Cameron Dye (The Last Starfighter) shows just what he is made of while playing a game of one on one in 1988 slasher/police procedural Out of the Dark.

Dye with Mayo-Chandler

Dye with Mayo-Chandler

Centering around a group of phone sex worker/actresses who are being murdered by a psychotic clown, Out of the Dark can be recommended almost solely by its amazing cast. Filled with genre regulars like Karen Black(Trilogy of Terror, Burnt Offerings, House of 1000 Corpses), Karen Witter (Buried Alive, Popcorn, Midnight, The Vineyard), Starr Andreeff (Dance of the Damned, The Vampire Journals, The Terror Within, Amityville: Dollhouse) and Karen Mayo-Chandler (Stripped to Kill II, 976-Evil II, Hard to Die), OOTD, also, features cameo appearances from exploitation regulars/faded Hollywood greats as Divine, Lainie Kaizan, Tab Hunter (whose bit as a surprised motorist is some of his best on camera footage) and Paul Bartel. Add character actors like Geoffrey Lewis, Bud Cort (Harold and Maude), Silvana Gilardo and Tracy Walter into the mix and you have a low budget cinephile’s paradise!cameronshot

Here, Dye plays Kevin Silver, a photographer with access to all the victims, as his girlfriend, Kristi (perky Lynn Danielson), works with them. As police investigators examine the consistently half-naked Silver’s muddied past, he and Kristi decide to unwind with a game of basketball. Kristi has other ideas, though. As Kevin/Dye goes to take the first shot, she pulls down his shorts giving the audience a nice view of his svelte globes o’ loving! Later as things continue to escalate, the two seek further solace in a passionate romp in a sleazy hotel, offering us a nice side view of Dye’s healthy assets, as well.

Dye and Danielson.

Of course, this being a (slightly predictable)exploitation gem, even though Kevin/Dye often shows us, here, that he has nothing to hide – the film’s final scene just may reveal he has more circus mayhem in his blood than previously thought.

The Backside of Horror: Wes Ramsey in “Dark Honeymoon”!

Published March 11, 2013 by biggayhorrorfan

Redundancy is usually a bad thing (Um – Bush, Jr. TWICE, anyone?!?), but occasionally it has its benefits.

latter%20daysTake Wes Ramsey (Brotherhood of Blood, Dracula’s Guest), for example. Ramsey became a gay favorite by showing off almost all of his dramatic skills in the 2003 party boy on Mormon lad odyssey Latter Days. (And you thought Trey Parker and Matt Stone were being original!) Thankfully, this delightful thespian returned to the flesh filled scene of the crime, four years later, by showing off those butt checks again in demented horror-thriller Dark Honeymoon (2007, released 2008). Here, Ramsey also proved he has something in common with the esteemed Janet Leigh. Yes, his shower, as the masculine, girl banging Jay does turn out particularly bad!photo (7)

Dark Honeymoon’s best attribute (sideswiping Ramsey’s moon, of course) is the amazing variety of former A-Listers who appear, briefly, to get done in by Lindy Booth’s deliciously insane Kathryn. Yes, Eric Roberts, Tia Carrere and Daryl Hannah all encounter this religious lass’ wraith (or do they asks the malicious trick ending) while the amazing Roy Scheider presides over it all with a watchful eye!

The Backside of Horror: Mark De Alessandro in The Vineyard!

Published February 26, 2013 by biggayhorrorfan

Vineyard-1989
(Imagined) money, scientific appeal, a fine liquor collection – Big Gay Horror Fan knows that these things guarantee you nothing in the romance department. Too bad he wasn’t around to help James Hong’s Dr. Elson Po discover this before the bloody mayhem ensued in 1989’s hilariously fun The Vineyard.

010Yes, Hong’s Po is a successful businessman with his own island estate, a fine winery and a way with acupuncture needles. But all that doesn’t keep his young wife, played by Lissa Zapperdino, out of the sexual clutches of his studly mechanic Mike, hunky stuntman Mark De Alessandro.

As Mike, De Alessandro (whom has worked on such features as Starship Troopers, The Mist and the Pulse series) shares a wink with Ho’s betrothed in the film’s early moments. Soon, they are enjoying an outdoor romp which features a nice shot of De Alessandro’s incredible physique – including an incredibly sexy stroll down the peripheries of his incredibly toned butt cheeks. Of course, Hong’s Po soon has his savage revenge on Mike – which indicates he probably didn’t need my help, anyhow. 011

Further pleasure in this insane mad scientist/zombie/kung-fu/samurai legend/kids in peril hybrid can be found within a couple of its cast members’ fascinating genre credits. The beautiful Karen Witter (Popcorn, The Hero and the Terror, Buried Alive, Out of the Dark, Midnight) heads the ensemble of young folks as (the awesomely named) Jezabel Fairchild with support from The Dead Pit’s Cheryl Lawson as the bugged out Claudia.

Mark - with clothes!

Mark – with clothes!

Throw in a flamboyant middle-aged European type who leads the kids to their doom, a supporting cast largely inspired by their ability to do stunts (many of whom never worked as performers again) and a moment or two of over-the-top drag action provided by dimwitted, muscle bound Brian (Sean Donahue) and it’s very clear that De Alessandro’s disrobing is part of one crazy stylistic wonder!

The Backside of Horror: Tim Matheson in Impulse!

Published February 11, 2013 by biggayhorrorfan

Impluse 1984 Meg Tilly Bill Paxton 2
Big Gay Horror Fan can count the jaw-dropping moments of his youth on one finger: the moment he witnessed dreamy man-on-the-job Tim Matheson hop out of bed with a young Meg Tilly (One Dark Night, Psycho II, Body Snatchers) in 1984’s environmental horror opus Impulse – and walk across the room butt naked!

impulse%205 Matheson and Tilly portray a boyfriend and girlfriend who return to a small town gone crazy due to a crisis in her family. A toxin spill has turned old mom suicidal and soon Matheson’s Stuart is affected as well. This edge turns decidedly creepy when he takes up a small town Lolita’s offer for oral pleasure.

The other true notable in this ABC Motion Pictures’ production is the legendary Hume Cronyn’s (1943’s Phantom of the Opera, Hitchcock’s Lifeboat) decidedly creepy turn as the town doctor. Meanwhile, Bill Paxton rivals similar early turns in Mortuary, Night Warning and television slasher Deadly Lessons by showing up as another twisted townsperson.Impulse--Pulsion-Homicide-Impulse-1984-1

But while those performances deserve mention from a creative standpoint, for those remembering their man starved youths, this film still resonates for another reason. It will always be Matheson’s cheeky jaunt across the floor that makes this portrayal of psyches gone astray one of most memorable viewing moments of our still explorative lives!

The Backside of Horror: Bob Morley, “Road Kill”

Published January 29, 2013 by biggayhorrorfan

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, parmesan dressing, pepper jack cheese. These are things that Big Gay Horror Fan knows very well, but as evidenced by his virile display in 2009 horror odyssey Road Kill (released in 2010 under the Fangoria FrightFest banner), that Australian actor Bob Morley does not.

roadkillIn this dreamy, atmospheric outing Morley plays Craig, the object of much female affection, even after he has been disabled in a mysterious car crash. Sporting the look of a feverish punk, Morley’s Craig is soon possessed by the spirit of the massive three-trailer truck that has caused his injuries. Of course, mayhem, destruction and death soon follow.

Vibrating with solid magnetism, Morley brings a nice intensity to (the often shirtless) Craig. More importantly, to posterior fetishists, Morley displays a nice view of his taut buttocks during an opening sex scene.

You can take a look at some of Morley’s bloodied Road Kill antics here:

In an interesting note, Road Kill co-star Xavier Samuel, who has displayed power in leading roles in The Loved Ones, Bait (3D) and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, is regulated to the sideman role, here. As Craig’s betrayed yet loving friend Marcus, Samuel is soon bloodied and muted.

Meanwhile, Morley has continued to appeal to outback queers with his brief stint as Aidan Foster, a gay youth, in the long running soap opera Neighbours.bobmorley

The Backside of Horror: Christoph Bretner in Bruno Mattei’s Rats

Published December 31, 2012 by biggayhorrorfan

ratsnightofterror1984dvd1
So many things have embarrassed Big Gay Horror Fan in his various living quarters over the years. Why you must remember the time that my actress friend Griselda sat on the couch in the living room without realizing she was resting upon my roommate’s rubber cock ring. It had blended in perfectly with that piece of furniture’s black leather exterior and she was blissfully unaware – despite my herculean efforts to rescue her! Horrors! Then there was the time that my building manager came into do a quick inspection and discovered mouse poo upon my stovetop. It had been dropped off, during the waning hours of morning, by an unknown (at least to me), yet very charitable visitor!

But, at the very least, I haven’t suffered the fate of Bruno Mattei’s characters in 1984’s deliciously ridiculous Rats: A Night of Terror. I have never ONCE been eaten alive, in my dwelling, by bucket loads of enormously flung rats!

Still, out of the many things to recommend about this enormously fun chunk fest, concerning a group of apocalyptic survivors who find more than they bargained for in the residence they are squatting in, is the copious amount of nudity provided by lean ‘n mean Cristoph Bretner (AKA Jean Christophe Bretrigniere)as irascible punk Lucifer.rats_night_of_terror_glc_06

Looking like a combination of Mick Jagger and an anorexic Goth child, Bretner exposes both lean arse and flopping pee pee as he beds the exotic Lilith. Played by lithe Moune Duvivier (whom apparently also essayed the all important ‘Nun on a Bicycle’ in the 1990 Molly Ringwald flick Strike it Rich), Lilith is dubbed in a dreadful Southern accent, and soon meets her fate via the film’s most memorable kill – a rat burrows its way into her sleeping bag entangled hoo-ha, nibbling its way up through her mouth!

Of course, Bretner soon meets his maker via the shrieking title monsters, as well. Thus proving, once and for all (again!), that nudity on film is very bad for the portrayer – but oh so good for us thrill-seeking viewers!

You can check out the trailer for Rats – which features the amazing Geretta Geretta (Demons) in a prominent Sigourney Weaver style role – here:
