Witchcraft Series: The Final Adventure?

Published June 16, 2017 by biggayhorrorfan

Some folks dip their toes in the pool. Others dive in, body first.

Derrick Carey of the sick cinematic podcast Astro Radio Z belongs to the latter category. He and various other mutants, myself included, have been immersing themselves in the deep end by analyzing the low budget soft core horror series Witchcraft – for…gulp…years now!

Naturally, now that Witchcraft 14: Angel of Death, Witchcraft 15: Blood Rose and Witchcraft 16: Hollywood Coven have been unleashed upon the world, we had to take a look and give our (sometimes) zany, (occasionally) well modulated opinions on them. Nicely, we are joined here by Dustin Hubbard, an accomplished filmmaker and, perhaps, the greatest Witchcraft fan ever.

You can listen to the episode here:

Have you been…feeling mightier than the Joker? Ready to pop your anvil to the max? Humming Blondie’s Atomic nonstop, for days?!?

Well, then you are definitely ready to take on the latest episode of Astro Radio Z, where the wonders of early 90s T and A crime comedies Vice Academy 3 and Vice Academy 4 are, lovingly and pitifully, examined.

Featuring a bevy of VHS goddesses, such as Ginger Lynn Allen, Darcy DeMoss, Julia Parton and Deborah Dutch, these films should be scintillating time-wasters. But are they?

Join host Derrick Carey and the boys (including myself) and find out!

Astro Radio Z Presents “Why Exploitation?”

Published February 20, 2015 by biggayhorrorfan

You’ve been warned! This is where it gets real!

Ever since Sister Theresa, the principal at the Catholic high school I attended, tried to cover up the fact that one of the visiting faculty tried to force me into becoming his personal mattress slave, I’ve taken a voracious liking to films in which nuns do incorrigible things! While vicarious revenge is thrilling, I, also, feel that those sleazy celluloid morsels known as nunsploitation films serve as a very potent look at the disfranchisement of women in society and how their sexuality is used to bind and entrap them.

Thus, I was pleased as punch to join host Derrick Carey and crew (Kate Owens, Seth Poulin, Andrew Shearer and Scott Davis) on a recent episode of superlative podcast Astro Radio Z to talk about Flavia, The Heretic. This film is full of all sorts of Euro-madness, but at its heart, beats a true message about the treatment of women in society.

Amidst the chat about such titles as Fight for Your Life, Hollywood Chainsaw Hookersand Massacre in a Women’s Prison, we also talk about what exploitation means to us and why we love these films so much. The revelations may just surprise you. So, what are you waiting for? Get downloading now!

And when you’re through, be sure to check out some of the other work that these glorious participants do:

Astro Radio Z: Vice Academy 1 and 2!

Published February 5, 2015 by biggayhorrorfan

Feeling the undercover blues? Well, get over ‘em! Astro Radio Z, that screwily divine podcast featuring host Derrick Carrey and such zany journalist-filmmaker types as Scott Davis, Kate Owens, Mark the Movie Man, Glenn Buettner, Andrew Shearer, Paul Salzer and myself, has taken on the (historic, skin-laden) Vice Academy series…and the first installment, focusing on the first two films in this soft core delight, is more comfortable than any pair of pink, mink lined handcuffs!

Defending Jaws 4: The Revenge!

Published July 19, 2014 by biggayhorrorfan

Frequently, I have been referred to as all wet! While this may certainly be true in some cases, it does not apply when considering the fact that I believe the widely reviled Jaws 4: The Revenge is actually a pretty fun, vaguely feminist romp.

Recently, the distinguished gents of Astro Radio Z (including jocular host Derrick Carey) took a moment to examine their favorite films (including such titles as Firewalker, Staying Alive and Megaforce) that, currently, have a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

You can hear all about them and discover why I think Jaws 4: The Revenge is a perfect 50% at the link, below:

Astro Radio Z: The Last of Witchcraft!

Published June 25, 2014 by biggayhorrorfan

So, this is just like the time I went out with the drooling maniac that my mother (the lesbian prostitute nun) wanted to marry. Even though she didn’t realize it at the time, I was doing her a favor.

Likewise, the charming gents of the amazing podcast Astro Radio Z and myself have taken a bullet for all cinematic voyeurs out there by diving into the entire Witchcraft series! Yes, watching the oftentimes unbelievably boring entries in this soft core horror enterprise was both a horror and a joy – something we all point out in this the (gasp!) final episode covering the last two (ahem!) films in the series.

So, dive in – and if you find that you need a warlock to help pull you out of the mucky abyss – please DON’T call someone named Will Spanner!

Astro Radio Z: Witchcraft 9 – 11

“Hey guys! I’ve got some toilet paper clutched between my palms!” Stephanie Beaton and crew facing down the horrors of the Witchcrap — Witchcraft series!

Getting beaten down is not a good thing…watching scream queen Stephanie Beaton in a trio of Witchcraft films on the other hand…

Well, honestly, that might be pretty bad, too. But the boys of Astro Radio Z and myself are committed to watching all of this (often really horrible) T and A laced horror series…just so you don’t have to.

The latest episode, focusing on Witchcraft 911 (which, for some unknown reason, have been my favorite of the series), has dropped. So, if you need something to distract you while undergoing that latest lumbar puncture…this just might be the thing!

P.S.: Just so there is no misunderstanding, I really do love the divine Ms. Beaton with all of my femme freak, horror loving heart!

“And I’ve got no defense for it.
The heat is too intense for it.
What good would common sense for it do?

…’cause it’s witchcraft, wicked witchcraft” – Coleman, Leigh

Recording artists like Frank Sinatra and Peggy Lee may have thought they understood the supernatural arts when caressing their vocal cords along Cy Coleman and Carolyn Leigh’s classic tune Witchcraft. But if they never watched one of the 90s B Movie films baring that name, then they actually knew nothing of the tormented, tedious joy that the guys of Astro Radio Z (including host/founder Derrick Carey, Mark Krawczyk, Glenn Randall Buettner and myself) have experienced in our cape shrouded viewing journeys.

Yes, this time we wicked cinephiles endured the vampiric, long lasting effects of Witchcraft 58.

Astro Radio Z: Argento’s Dracula!

Published February 18, 2014 by biggayhorrorfan

Sometimes, there is nothing that makes me happier than a bag of red licorice, the company of my vintage Suzanne Somers action figure and the soundtrack of Love At First Bite on my stereo!

But usually I am most pleased when I get to talk cheesy horror flicks with upstanding terror stalkers like Derrick Carey (Swamphead, Hole in the Wall), Cory J. Udler (Incest Death Squad series, Mediatrix) and acclaimed genre journalist Seth Poulin.

Here, we four talk, on the Carrey hosted podcast Astro Radio Z, about Dario Argento’s wildly dismissed Dracula and about the current state of this master of horror and his ilk.

Not surprisingly, perhaps, we all kind of dug this one. Find out why at:
