Dagger Cast: Chris Moore

Published April 19, 2022 by biggayhorrorfan

Actor-director-writer Chris Moore is one of the most inspiring gay artists that I know. In the past 6 or 7 years, he has produced 4 accomplished horror films. Nicely, Children of Sin, which begins streaming on Amazon on 4/22/22, is his queerest and bloodiest yet. We were thrilled to have him on the latest episode of Dagger Cast to talk about all the behind-the-scenes magic (& low budget craziness) at hand and know that only the most determined and antisocial Mary Esthers would not want to check out what this brilliant young artist has to say.

Be sure to keep up with all the future devilry of this project at https://www.facebook.com/childrenofsinmovie, as well!

Dagger Cast: Halloween Kills

Published November 16, 2021 by biggayhorrorfan

“Work that pony!”

Wow! What a day! Not to brag, but I just received my official certificate to become a full time member of Nova and the Country Gays! “What is that?” you may ask. —-

Well, it is a glorious honor that is bestowed only upon happy Dagger Cast listeners after they engage in our current episode featuring the divine Eliska Hahn. Eliska has been traumatically radiating across movie and television screens, as of late, as part of the magnetic featured cast of Halloween Kills! She fills us in on a bevy of delicious behind the scenes factoids about that current slasher blockbuster… and takes us back in time a bit to reminisce about her participation in the Troma distributed cult classic Invasion of the Space Preachers.

Your entry into fabulousness awaits!

Dagger Cast: Limerence

Published April 17, 2020 by biggayhorrorfan

Limerance Collage

The latest Dagger Cast is up ‘n streaming! Lindsey and I catch up a bit, reviewing the world of horror a mere week before the stay at home orders went into effect.

We also have a sweet conversation with talented actress-writer Angela Riccetti. Angela is the lead of Limerence, a fantastical lesbian romance with some Twin Peaks style elements. This episode, which will hopefully go down in our history as the only show where my weak bladder makes an appearance (..pee break, anyone?!?!..), is available for listening at:

Dagger Cast with Corinne Halbert

Published March 11, 2020 by biggayhorrorfan

Corinne and NunsYou can keep your Vanessa Redgrave, your Florinda Balkan, your Bonnie Aarons. They’re all awesome, but none of them can hold a cloistered candle to Corinne Halbert! One of Chicagoland’s most important horror artists, Halbert joined us on the latest Dagger Cast to talk about her influences and how discovering a love for the macabre in your youth shapes you. Believe me, we can all relate, right?!? In particular we look at the nunsploitation genre, including such classics as The Devils and School of the Holy Beast, and how it has informed her work. Also joining us this time around are the amazing Rhea D and Coye Vega – con regulars, cos players and generally awesome people.

A Scry for Dagger Cast!

Published December 24, 2019 by biggayhorrorfan

DC

Queer writer and Midwest bon vivant Aaron Eischeid brought his A game to the holiday episode of Dagger Cast! Promoting A Scry for Help, his demon inspired tale of grief, Eishcheid regaled us with tales of Clive Barker and conjuring….and even answered a few of our goofy questions about Santa tinged slashers!

This episode also marks Dagger Cast’s one year anniversary. It’s been such an amazing pleasure to chat with all of our guests…and to do all those gloriously goofy post show photo shoots! We can’t wait to continue with more sonic (and visual) alternative horror adventures in 2020!

Dagger Cast Divas!

Published November 22, 2019 by biggayhorrorfan

Davette

As with many of us, I am tired of straight white men controlling the narrative. Therefore, I was thrilled by the two latest guests on Dagger Cast, the horror based podcast that I co-host with The Cell Phones’ dynamic Lindsey Charles.

Our Halloween show centered around Davette Franklin (above), a young black theater artist who curates an annual horror play festival. November’s show, meanwhile, finds me be very thankful for Sarah Yeazel (below), a comic book loving gay woman who is writing a series of essays about how cinema has shaped her life and sexuality.

You can listen to both episodes on Soundcloud (below) and other outlets like Spotify and iTunes.

Dagger Cast with Bev Rage!

Published August 30, 2019 by biggayhorrorfan

Dagger Cast Duo.jpg

Hold onto yer wigs!!! Dagger Cast has turned into DRAG-GER CAST!!! Our latest episode features Bev Rage (AKA Josh J. Coles) who, along with her amazing band The Drinks, is truly showing the world what it means to be a potent glitter punk waitress! Bev truly brings the sunny mayhem here while also talking, seriously, about how she sees the drag community fitting into the world of horror in light of the country’s current hate filled climate! You can dive into the mascara strewn mosh pit at https://soundcloud.com/daggercast.

We’ve also added an exciting new addition to the show. As there’s nothing I love more than a classic cinema diva in an old school gothic horror piece, producer Jared Olson and co-host Lindsey Charles are allowing me to indulge my devotion to these grand femmes in a new Dagger Cast segment called Dr. Diva! In the first attempt, I get to sing the praises of the glorious writer-director-actress Ida Lupino and her stunning work in 1941’s atmospheric chiller Ladies in Retirement!

Enjoy!!! …and until the next time, SWEET love and pink GRUE, Big Gay Horror Fan!

Daggercast Kyra.jpg

It’s the end of Pride Month and you’re probably still go-go-going!

But if you need to catch your breath for a moment, feel free to take a second and listen to the latest episode of Dagger Cast with the amazing Kyra Leigh. Leigh is also always go-go-going as the musical director of Chicago’s production of Head Over Heels, the Go-Go’s musical, and here she talks about that project and her take on horror as a Trans Woman. We discuss Sleepaway Camp, Dressed to Kill and how Leigh feels the Trans Community should fit into upcoming genre films. It’s an important and informative talk fueled by her grand heart and infectious spirit.

Music to Make Horror Movies By: FEE LION

Published May 5, 2019 by biggayhorrorfan

Fee Lion.jpg

Blood Sisters, FEE LION’s latest EP, vibrates with impulses of dark murder, underscored by a true sense of female empowerment. But, as evidenced by On Me, one of her most successful singles, she has long been playing with a smart balance between the creepy under life and the brighter hotspots of the dance floor.

Nicely, we recently talked with FEE about her inspirations – Dario Argento and Drag Race, anyone?!? – during a particularly honest episode of Dagger Cast. I was beyond thrilled. Give it a listen and you will be, too.

Dagger Cast

Published March 8, 2019 by biggayhorrorfan

DC1

Stevie Nicks may have celebrated the Edge of Seventeen, but as I stand on the verge of 51, I have to laud Dagger Cast! Initiated by Jared Olsen, one half of edgy production company nite smoke, this podcast looks at horror from the sense of the other. By the celebrating the LGBTQ, Black, Latinx and female (etc. etc…) viewpoint of horror, this podcast aims to reach into the hidden depths of the horror community, gazing far past the straight white gaze that has dominated it for so many years. DC Logo

As my co-host, the dynamic Lindsey Charles (lead singer of The Cell Phones), has often asked of our guests, we want to find out what you, that special and unique force in society, needs from this genre – a genre that can so beautiful express the hopes and fears of outsiders everywhere. Of course, we aim to do this with a sense of fun and irreverent punk rock spirit, as well!

To determine if we’ve succeeded, you can check out our first few episodes at https://soundcloud.com/daggercast.

Meanwhile, more information is available at https://www.facebook.com/daggercast/, as well.
