Fans of this life filled musical style will surely recall how Deb was often replaced by models on the covers of her singles and lip syncing actresses at live music events.

It’s Pride Month and in celebration, Count the Clock Productions does The Favourite one better. Their recently released music video Bubblegum features a vengeful servant playing florescent tricks on an out of control monarch. Revenge has never quite been so brightly fun!
Director Zach Lorkiewicz’s consistent sense of style, a frosty mélange of Richard Avedon morphed into David LaChapelle’s visual torso, is present here…along with a beautiful half naked milk pourer. That tune is pretty sweet, too!

Octavia Spencer commands the outrageous horror fest Ma…and she gives upmost respect to an under sung diva of dance music in one fantastic sequence. With enthusiasm, Spencer accentuates a scene where the classic dance track Funky Town, performed by Lipps Inc, is playing.
While that song is practically legendary, the magnetic Cynthia Johnson, who sang the lead on all of the band’s songs on their first three recordings, is not nearly as visually present in people’s minds. Hopefully, Johnson, who has continued to perform as a vocalist and instrumentalist over the years, will be given renewed interest as Ma continues to dominate viewers with its sassy thrills.

She is the essence of smooth cool… a proud performer whose reign at MGM in the ‘40s was compromised by racism. She held her head high, though, and after tiring of being used predominantly in specialty numbers (that were often cut out of the pictures in the southern states), she triumphantly returned to concert halls and cabarets to make her living.
Simply stated, Lena Horne is a goddess and while her connection to horror films is limited to the use of her music in an episode of American Horror Story, her uncompromising stance in the face of adversity is something that every genre lover can admire.
Her take on The Beatles’ Rocky Raccoon also points out the fact that no style was immune to her charms. She most definitely would have made a sophisticated yet sassy rock n roller!
She would have punked out with a humanitarian edge, though. In one of her final interviews before her death in 2010 at the age of 92, Horne kept on insisting that the way to true success was to “Just be nice to people”…”Just be nice to people!” Let’s take her advice and keep her magnetic spirit alive for decades to come!

Renowned, worldwide, for being the smooth crooner behind the unstoppable The Love Boat theme, the soulful Jack Jones officially made an entry into the horror world with Pete Walker’s 1978 slasher The Comeback.
Playing a faded pop star whose career and life are threatened by a homicidal maniac here, Jones triumphed. Of course, this veteran performer had already dealt with many powerful villains throughout his multi-faceted career. Perhaps, though, none was more vicious than that unrelenting entity known as The Love Bug!

Bette Davis threw herself, gamely, into whatever opportunities came her way. Whether shaving her head, elongating her eyebrows or adding padding to her frame, there was little that she wouldn’t do for a role. Fully embracing her horror queen mantle, Davis even recorded a rock and roll number celebrating Baby Jane, one of her most endearingly acclaimed gothic portrayals. Here she performs that (culturally fascinating) number on The Andy Williams Show.
Interestingly, Davis ended her career with a role in genre icon Larry Cohen’s Wicked Stepmother, a zany look at witchy (and bewitching) women – qualities that this erstwhile adventuress always possessed.
Meanwhile, Williams, whose reputation was always a bit sunnier than diva Davis’s, has found his music also being used in such darker projects as The Shape of Water and The Zodiac. Most effectively, perhaps, his beaming version of Happy Heart was used to incredible effect in Shallow Grave, a violent thriller that, culturally, announced actor Ewan McGregor as a force to be reckoned with.

Even mainstream horror has begun to acknowledge the LGBTQIA experience with gay characters populating the universes of Happy Death Day, Truth or Dare and Unfriended: Dark Web. It seems that now would be the perfect time to have a queer band dominate the soundtrack of one such offering.
With their emotional atmospherics and dramatic focus, Australian based Cub Sport, led by the dynamic Tim Nelson and his husband Sam Netterfield, would be the perfect choice to decorate some eerie landscape. Their work has even appeared in an episode of the television version of Scream and their second album was entitled Bats. Perfect, no?!?

One of Broadway’s true treasures, Jane Summerhays also brought her vital energy to Let the Games Begin, a third season episode of the George Romero created anthology series Tales From The Darkside.
Of course, Summerhays frequently gave veteran theater goers the chills. Who can forget her amazing work with Ann Miller in Sugar Babies and Eartha Kitt in The Wild Party? No one, that’s who!!!
